Roofing for Hamden, from Whitneyville slate to Mount Carmel colonials
Hamden is twenty minutes from our Wallingford shop down Route 15 or Route 10, and it may have the widest range of roofs of any town we serve. Whitneyville and Spring Glen are 1920s and '30s colonials and Tudors, many with original slate and copper. Hamden Plains and Highwood are postwar capes and ranches. Up toward Mount Carmel, West Woods, and Sleeping Giant, the houses are 1970s-and-newer colonials under a heavy tree canopy, and each kind of roof fails in its own way.
We did a full roof replacement on Benham Street in Hamden in December 2024, and we've written estimates for homeowners on Briarcliff Road and Forest Street since. Hamden has been part of our listed service area on Google and Angi for years, and it's one of the towns we hear from most.
Hamden's slate is the part most roofers won't touch. We work on slate, asphalt, metal, and low-slope systems, so we can tell you whether a 90-year-old slate roof needs a few slates and new flashing or whether it's reached the end. On the newer colonials under the trees, the problems are the usual central-Connecticut ones, ice dams at the eaves and moss on shaded slopes, which is why every roof we install gets two rows of ice-and-water shield and an attic ventilation check.
Our roofing standards on every Hamden home
The boring details that decide whether a roof lasts twenty-five years or fifteen.

Ice-and-water shield: 2 rows. Connecticut code requires one row (24 inches past the interior wall). We install two rows (48 inches). Double the code.
Drip edge on every rake. Every roof, every time.
Attic ventilation, inspected on every job. If your existing setup is working, we reinstall the ridge vent. If it's not, we build you a better one.
Same-day dry-in. When we tear off the old roof, we cover the roof sheathing with waterproof underlayment before we stop for the day. Your house is never left open overnight.
Sheathing replacement. If the existing roof sheathing doesn't meet our standards, we replace it.

From a Pattison customer
“The men from Pattison Construction did an expert job. They had to match some siding that was damaged and they matched it so close you can't even tell the difference. They told us when they would start and finish. We were also pleased with their communication with us. You will not find a better company. We would highly recommend them.”

Hamden Roofing FAQs
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Hamden?
Yes. Hamden's Building Department requires a permit for a roof replacement. We pull the permit and schedule the final inspection for you.
Can you repair or replace a slate roof in Spring Glen or Whitneyville?
Yes. Slate is one of the materials we install and repair, along with asphalt, metal, and low-slope membranes. Often the slate itself is fine and the copper flashing or the valleys have failed. We'll tell you which, and we won't push a replacement you don't need.
Have you done roofs in Hamden before?
Yes, including a full roof replacement on Benham Street in December 2024. Hamden has been on our Google service area for years, and we've estimated projects on Briarcliff Road and Forest Street since.
How long does a typical roof replacement take?
For an asphalt-shingle roof on a typical Hamden home, we usually complete the tear-off and new install in one day, weather permitting. Larger homes, complex rooflines, or material changes (asphalt to metal or slate) take longer. We confirm an exact schedule with you at the time of estimate.
